NPR Seattle: SlutWalks sweep the nation

Yesterday I was delighted to go on KUOW’s The Conversation with Ross Reynolds to talk about the SlutWalk phenomenon, which I have written about at Feministing. I talked with Reynolds about why the SlutWalk is an effective and exciting form of protest against the view expressed by one law enforcement officer in Toronto earlier this year, that women “should avoid dressing like sluts” if they want to be safe from sexual violence. We also discussed the controversy around the movement’s embrace of the word “slut,” and I explained why the Slut Walk protests are about so much more than the words we use and the clothes we wear.
