Until March 2024 I was an editor at VICE News, where I shaped groundbreaking coverage of online extremism and conspiracy theories, as well as some of the site’s most popular stories about electoral politics and workers’ rights. But the most fun I had at VICE was probably editing this story about the rise of dark romance, where serial killer is the new sexy.

As a contributing editor at MarieClaire.com, I covered the 2020 presidential primary from Iowa, writing about the changing role of political spouses and the lives of caucus campaign organizers, and sitting down with Senator Elizabeth Warren to talk about why it’s so hard for millennials to have kids.

Until January 2019, I was the founding Deputy Opinion Editor at HuffPost. Our Opinion section was influential, highly-trafficked, and diverse. As Deputy Editor, I edited and published work by high profile writers and thinkers, and columns by first-time writers and experts from a wide range of fields. Before launching the Opinion section, I spent two years as HuffPost’s Senior Front Page Editor.

At HuffPost, I wrote about politics and abortion access. I also wrote about popular culture and classical ballet, and I ran the outlet’s 2016 Olympic gymnastics coverage.

My writing about politics and pop culture has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The Guardian, New York magazine, Reuters, and The New Republic. Until 2014, I was a Senior Columnist at Feministing, the world’s most-read feminist publication, where I blogged about gender, politics, pop culture, and body image.

I have a PhD in Media Studies from the University of New South Wales; my doctoral dissertation was about sex and power in contemporary Hollywood romantic comedies. Yes, really.
